The Experience of Open Space

September 19, 2014

This very special Newport Open Space Forum event is the celebratory kickoff to a two-year comprehensive planning effort for Newport’s parks and open spaces.

Newport’s parks and open spaces are defined by urban, coastal, and historic conditions. Parks, beaches, boulevards and walks intersect with historic sites, community needs, wildlife habitat and sea level rise. How do we plan for the future of our open spaces? How can we balance the needs of our residents and visitors with protection of our shoreline, historic harbor neighborhoods and native wildlife habitat? How can these considerations inform a planning process that is inclusive, collaborative, and creative?

Our speakers will explore new thinking in open space protection and use, highlighting best practices in their disciplines and encouraging us to explore, imagine and think beyond the usual as we begin to plan for a better future for our city.
