Miantonomi Park

Established as a WW1 memorial park, this park includes Miantonomi Hill, the highest point in Newport. The Hill, once the seat of power for the Narragansett Indians, has housed colonial beacons, revolutionary war fortifications, and finally, a 1929 memorial tower designed by Meade, McKim and White. With the assistance of the Aquidneck Island Land Trust, Sunset Hill has been added to the park with its revolutionary war earthen redoubt. The park is popular for birding, dog walking, and large community cookouts.
